Over time, you will get a lot of nice pictures in that folder. I didn’t have access to that folder nor the ability to change permissions through windows explorer, but I was able to do whatever I want including overwriting files and successfully changing my background image!

Thanks very much for the responses. I think what I’m looking for is right under my nose. Just after installing Windows, when I wanted to use a custom lock screen picture I clicked on Browse under the default thumbs and navigated to the original of the picture I wanted to use. When I posted to start this thread some 2 and a half months later I was convinced I had edited the photo and placed it in some dedicated place for screen pictures.

But it looks like I never did. So what I will do is to do the editing I want then place the fixed-up picture in with the defaults. Then I’ll know later! What was bugging me the real question was that I could not get any info out of the thumbs in Personalize that would lead me to the ‘mother’ files.
