Inventor SP1 installation is running slowly | Inventor | Autodesk Knowledge Network.

I have read all of the related topics, but most of them are old. My Inventor is almost dead in the water. I can’t use it at this speed. There was recently a major windows update that knocked out all of our fast constraint commands, but I think it has also killed my Inventor performance overall. So, it may be that time to install version , which I have, what is the best practice to upgrade software versions?

I searched this topic too, but found nothing. I run a home based business, and if I can’t fix this, I might have to get a job.

Go to Solution. Solved by JoyceZhou. There are numerous guides on how to install Inventor but I will admit, they do not cover all the bases in any one article. It would seem that you are under the impression that you « Upgrade Inventor to Inventor « .

This is not the case, Inventor is a entity into itself and it is installed completely separate from Inventor You can however install them side-by-side, if you have hard drive space. The basic steps are listed below:. The next steps may vary depending on the way you have your Inventor project file.

I declare my Inventor Styles and Templates in separate folders than the default installation locations in order to preserve a « clean » copy of Inventor Styles and Templates. If you do this method do the folowing.

It appears with both R and R If yes, the You could get them from the download page. Thank you everyone for the support. I will check out the Beta site, I have never done that before. Since posting this I have worked on some more of it. Most of my trouble was my internet speed.

I work with many customers and most of my data is stored on Dropbox, good or bad, but the regen was causing extreme delays. I pack and go’ed the file back into my hard drive and the issue was mostly fixed, still painfully slow, but functional.

As for downloading , I have been under the assumption that cleaning off completely is a good idea. But I would have to be careful of the Content center files. I also think there must be a good way to migrate all data, or at least the most used data, at the same time as the new install. I have botched this before in the past.

Just to clarify, any Inventor major release can be installed side-by-side with prior or future releases. There is no need to remove from your machine when you install Inventor works much better if all files are on your local harddrive. It can work ok over a local network or VPN or on Dropbox, but the further the files are from the local workstation, the greater the chance of issues that slow things down.

Be aware of the compatibility issues between different versions of Inventor. Up until the Inventor So files saved with Inventor could not be opened with Inventor or earlier. As I understand it, Inventor Currently Inventor I don’t know if you actually get a browser that you can edit or if you just get a dumb solid. We maintain and use several different versions of Solidworks, Inventor and Creo so that we deliver the final design in a format that our customers can use with their internal systems.

Make sure to coordinate your version change with your customers. If you do decide to install two or more versions of Inventor on the same machine, be very careful how you set up your project files, Content Center, templates and other resources so that you don’t intermix them on the same project.

If you are Beta user, you could get the I am happy to report the beta update worked to speed up assembly commands to normal time. My other problem continues, but I feel it is a hardware and internet connectivity issue. I am grateful for all of your help thus far, I will try to report back on my issues if I am able to fix them, new internet provider is on the way!

Now to tackle the hardware muscles. I have opted out of installing just yet, but that will come shortly. The Inventor We have a couple of users on new workstations that have very slow constraint dialogue performance. Being newly installed workstations, we are not able to roll them back to windows pre We are actively working on a fix for Unfortunately, the fix to has to be different than the one to and It is not yet available at the moment.

Indeed, the fix is being worked on. I need to check with the project team and see where we are at regarding the fix and delivery of the fix.

Inventor is not worth using unless there are couple of computers in hand where When one computer goes on HOLD one can use another one, that is what I do , switch between Linux and windows when ever I endeavor to draw a part. The fix is indeed released as part of Inventor Based on your reply, you seem to have encountered a lot of issues when using Inventor.

Do you mind starting a new thread and discussing individually? If possible, please include any prior communication you had with Autodesk. Please feel free to reach me directly johnson. It is not true that Inventor team blames users when the program does not run. If there was any prior communication alluding as such, that would be wrong.

Please share an example here. I am more than happy to follow up with the team and find out how we can resolve the issues properly. As you mentioned dropbox is amazing for redundancy, however it should duplicate work on your local storage, same goes for network as your files get bigger the lag will get worse.
